3 Easy Ways to Create a Product Demonstration Video

If you’re running an ecommerce website or simply want to promote a particular product then you should definitely create a product demonstration video.

Essentially the video itself will help you to explain the product and what it can do, while focusing on what makes it stand out. It may also help to show it ‘in action’ and how it can help perform a particular task or solve a certain problem.

Of course to do all that you first need to know how to create a product demonstration video, and that may seem tricky at first. Fortunately nowadays it can actually be fairly easy – and there are three ways in particular you may want to go about it:

Recording live footage with a smartphone or digital camera

Odds are your smartphone or digital camera is more than capable of recording live footage – possibly even in Full HD (i.e. 1080p). Assuming that is the case you could quite easily create a product demonstration video by using it to record your product.

Create a Product Demonstration Video

When you do record live footage, make sure that you either rest the camera against a stable surface or use a holder or stand so that it doesn’t shake or move during the demonstration. Also be very aware of the backdrop against which you are recording the product, and ideally try to use one that is simple and clean – preferably white or off-white.

Most product demonstrations are often accompanied by a voiceover – and although it is possible to record it live, you will often find that the audio quality is better if you record and insert the voiceover later. Similarly you may not want to record the entire product demonstration in one take, and may find it easier to record separate scenes then piece it together afterwards.

Creating a video slideshow

Another alternative that you may want to pursue if you aren’t able to record live footage for whatever reason is to use photos to create a slideshow. If you do go down this route it would help to take various photos that each show the product from different angles, or showcase the steps involved in using it.

To make your video slideshow look more professional, try to ensure that all the photos you use are landscape oriented and are of a uniform size. If possible, plan out the slideshow in advance, and take photos accordingly that are suited to it.

Because slideshows are more limited than live footage, you may have to rely more heavily on the voiceover or text elements to provide context. Also you may have to play around with the slide duration timing so that it matches the voiceover.

It is worth noting that in some cases you may very well want to create a product demonstration that is a blend of live footage and slideshow elements.

Recording video footage from a PC screen

Of course not all products are physical in nature, and at times you may want to create a product demonstration video for an entirely digital product. The best way to do that is by using a screen recorder such as Movavi Screen Capture Studio to record video footage directly from your PC screen.

Assuming you want to use Movavi Screen Capture Studio to record footage from your screen, all you need to do is launch it and choose the ‘Record screen’ option. After that you will be able to draw a frame over the area of your screen that you want to record with the mouse cursor, choose the audio source, and set up the other recording parameters. When you are ready to record you can start by clicking the ‘REC’ button, then use the ‘Stop’ and other buttons or hotkeys to manage the recording.
